MRI & Medical RF Shielding
MRI RF shielding solutions engineered for medical imaging facilities, with integrated shielding, doors, windows, filters, penetrations and project-specific requirements.
Designed as a complete shielding boundary
MRI & Medical RF Shielding RFaraday provides engineered MRI RF shielding solutions for hospitals, diagnostic imaging centers, research facilities and other medical environments using magnetic resonance imaging systems.
Our approach treats MRI shielding as a complete engineered system. RF shielding, doors, windows, ventilation, electrical filters, service penetrations and other interfaces are coordinated around the MRI system, room design and project requirements.
Why MRI RF Shielding Matters MRI systems are highly sensitive to radio frequency interference. External RF signals can enter the scanner room and interfere with the MRI signal, potentially affecting image quality. At the same time, RF energy generated by the MRI system can be prevented from affecting surrounding electronic environments.
A properly designed RF shielded MRI room creates a controlled electromagnetic environment around the scanner.
Complete MRI RF Shielding Systems MRI shielding is more than installing conductive material on the walls. The complete enclosure must maintain shielding continuity across walls, ceiling, floor, doors, windows, ventilation systems, electrical services and other penetrations.
RFaraday develops the shielding system as an integrated solution, taking architectural, mechanical, electrical and equipment requirements into consideration.
RF Shielding for MRI Rooms Depending on the project requirements, MRI RF shielding systems can be engineered using appropriate shielding construction methods and materials. The selected solution is determined by the room design, MRI equipment specifications, site conditions and required shielding performance.
Our engineering process is designed to provide a controlled RF environment compatible with the requirements of the MRI installation.
MRI RF Shielded Doors The MRI door is a critical part of the RF enclosure. It must provide practical access while maintaining the continuity of the shielding system when closed.
RFaraday can integrate RF shielded doors into MRI rooms according to room configuration, access requirements and project specifications.
MRI RF Shielded Windows Observation windows can be incorporated into MRI shielding systems where visual access to the scan room is required.
RF shielding around the window assembly is designed to maintain the integrity of the surrounding enclosure while providing the required visibility.
Power, Signal & Service Penetrations Electrical power, communication lines, medical services, ventilation and other building services can create potential RF leakage paths through an MRI shield.
RFaraday coordinates RF filters, waveguides and shielded penetrations with the overall enclosure design to help maintain electromagnetic isolation.
MRI Magnetic Shielding RF shielding and magnetic shielding address different electromagnetic requirements. Depending on the MRI system, building layout and surrounding environment, additional magnetic field containment may be required.
Magnetic shielding requirements should be evaluated during the early stages of MRI site planning because the MRI magnet's fringe field can extend beyond the scan room and affect surrounding spaces or sensitive equipment.
Designed Around Your MRI System Every MRI installation is different. Magnet type, field strength, room dimensions, building structure, adjacent equipment, site conditions and manufacturer requirements can all influence the shielding design.
RFaraday works with project information and equipment requirements to develop an MRI shielding solution appropriate for the individual facility.
New MRI Construction & Existing Room Upgrades Our solutions can be considered for new MRI facilities as well as existing shielded rooms requiring modification, refurbishment or preparation for new MRI equipment.
Existing rooms may require assessment of the current RF enclosure, doors, windows, penetrations, filters and other shielding components before an upgrade or modification is undertaken.
Testing & Verification RF shielding performance should be verified according to the applicable project requirements and agreed testing methodology. Verification can include evaluation of the completed shielding enclosure and its critical interfaces.
Where testing and verification are included within the project scope, RFaraday coordinates the required technical process to support project completion and handover.
